As part of the BRICS+ Future Skills & Tech Challenge 2024, the competition in the Industrial Design skill has ended.
In 2024, the basis for skill assignment was the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies. The competitors used AI technologies at the analytics stage and in preparing the final presentation materials. Experts, based on their experience and industry experience, assessed how the use of AI affects the optimization and efficiency of solving routine and technical problems within the profession, and determined the need for the mandatory inclusion and expansion of the use of AI technology in skill tasks in the future.
Technology isn't just about design thinking, it's about the software used. And if the participants performed the first stage of work (sketching) manually, then modeling was only possible in a digital environment. The competitors used two international software products - Fusion 360 and SolidWorks, and for the first time at the international level in the field of industrial design, domestic software - Kompas 3D - was presented. Note that Kompas 3D was chosen for work by Chinese participants and participants from Brazil.
However, an industrial designer can be called a real specialist if he has, among other things, a design talent that was shown at the maximum level by the participants, since the features of the international championship are different time zones, strictly allocated time frames and a variety of cultures and mentalities.
Participants from Russia, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Brazil, China, Iran and Ghana took part in the competition, while experts from Russia, Uzbekistan, India, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Brazil, China and Iran were evaluated.
As part of the international competition, the prizes were distributed as follows:
1st place-Gulevich Alina Sergeevna, Russia.
2nd place-Victor Rodrigo de Freitas Ferreira, Brazil.
3rd place-Zhenmin Jiang, China.
In the BRICS Ranking, the prizes were distributed among participants from Russia, Brazil and China, respectively.
In the EAEU Ranking, prizes were distributed among participants from Russia, Kyrgyzstan and Belarus, respectively.
The final rankings can be found on the page of the BRICS+ Future Skills & Tech Challenge 2024 at the link https://inpdp.org/brics/
The essence of industrial design is the creation of objects of the material environment for human comfort. The characteristics of the consumer's perception of the product's appearance, the ability to interact with it, and understanding the principles of its operation are important. International competitive events are an opportunity to get acquainted with the needs, culture, mentality and technologies of representatives of different countries. By studying each other's work, the participants of the competition not only learned the thinking and design technologies used by their colleagues, but also enriched themselves culturally, penetrating the subtleties and peculiarities of each other's mentalities.
The results of this competition stage will be the main stage for the preparation and holding of the BRICS+ Engineering Teams Competition for the development of technological products in the Industrial Design Skill within the framework of the BRICS Future Skills & Tech Challenge 2024 Super Cup, which will be held in autumn 2024 in Kazan.
"Welcome to our expert family" - a phrase uttered at the Closing Ceremony, and immediately became popular, as the community is like a real big family. The results of the championship are new communications, interaction and an absolutely invaluable exchange of experience.
